Deteriorating Outdoor Eyewash station

On the long ride today from South Bend to Indianapolis, I worked on my messenger bag and FnB patches. I'm pretty excited to finish these up tonight!
My hotel reservations were mysteriously cancelled, so they had to put me in a spa room. I can sit in the whirlpool/spa area and watch TV. It's absurd. The last time I stayed here I had the next room level down and that room contains 2 TVs in a 12 ft radius. But they don't have Wireless, so I can't comput in bed. I feel like I'm roughing it.

So the future of our local IMC is going to be discussed next week. There have been MANY problems with the hierarchical structure and problems with the one person runnin' the show. (And he basically has that crown b/c he's the only on able to code it and has time to) And he and a few others are the loudest, so they always win. If things go my way, everyone will win. I'm getting a glimmer of hope in my eye.
I miss taking photos for IMC. Like these and these. The thrill of rushing home to upload pics that everyone is looking for is like none other. (although stressful at times when you're in a different city or there's WiFi involved)
(and this pic is pretty funny now. Taken when I still lived on Broughton St., so probably 2002?- Now, BLC and JMS are havin' a baby, Jeremiah is in SF, Lorraine is no longer the 'future punk rock dentist of America" but Dr. Callen, Joey Melba still sells insurance downtown and I just sewed a piece of the fabrics that's on my drum onto a bag. )

I found the cutest, littlest toad ever today. I named him Mortimer and he lived with me in a bucket for about 15 minutes. (Well, I didn't live in the bucket, and actually he didn't die, I let him out)

Losing a night of sleep during the week had more of an effect on me than anticipated. I couldn't sleep for more that 2 hours at a time for the rest of the weekend, but wasn't totally awake otherwise. Oh well, off to South Bend now.

Bathing Suit
Originally uploaded by Petie_in_Cbus.
I missed the Canada trip with everyone last week, but last night was my summer vacation. Slow power outage led me to the suburbs. I've never appreciated the convience of a vinyl village so much. Floating in a pool, starring at stars. Listening to rants of blue vs. red politics, making stirfry in a new, clean apatment in my bathing suit, watching TV. Oh, I felt like I could have thrown all of my values into the wind and become a bourgeois democrat. He almost had me convinced to stop riding my bike and just buy carbon credits to offset driving more... Almost..

Lust for Life- Iggy Pop, Turning Japanese- The Vapors (and of course the Skankin' Pickle cover), Dancing with myself- Generation X, Sheena Is a Punk Rocker- The Ramones (wow, I could go for watching Rock and Roll HS right now), It's my Life- Talk Talk, What do I get?- Buzzcocks. (and although it's not on these albums, I also remembered last night how much I love "Here comes your man" by The Pixies.)
And of course I forgot how much I love Madness and the Specials. Wow, I feel like today should be dancin' day but alas, it's not.

Downtown Cbus

I really like being at home on the weekends. I still haven't found a favorite secret spot in the city, but it was nice to explore downtown a bit on Saturday. Drooled over screen prints at Skylab and got a bit of flair for my cube. (not exactly a map per say, as everyone else has, but has a map-like feature) Midnight showing of Goonies, which hit the spot.
Although it was nice to work at the bike Co-op, it would have been nice to be in Pgh for the Whizzer's first ride! (video).

Stress Snowballs and other dramatic tales

Punk Rawk Aerobics
Originally uploaded by Petie_in_Cbus.
I'm usually pretty laid back, but once I start worrying about thing, my stress usually snowballs until I prettty much explode. I was pretty close last night.
I think it started with the SGirl the other night. I was an hour late for PR aerobics and ended up missing it all pretty much. Then Robbt was tampering with my internet connection, which has been down for about 2 months now, via the repair guy missing his apt. which is annoying. Then the monsoon came and I decided that I needed a waterproof bag, so after Robbt freaked about losing his wallet and found it, I went home and stiched some vinyl to my old messenger-wanna-be bag. This bag caused me much back/chest pain all through school, I'm not sure why I even still have it...
So then I would have been able to make it to work the next day without my climbing gear getting wet, but alas I ended up sleeping in. That night I frustratingly couldn't repair my bike and that stress carried through to last night. After almost throwing my bike and crying three times, the boy with the broken collar bone muscled through it and cranked my pedal on. yiyiyi I was still kinda a mess when I left so I couldn't even thank him properly. ugh
Plus, I've been doing a good deal of dietary research lately (like Paleo,,gluten free, Candia, Vegan, Slow Food (via Maria's folks)). And one startling occurance is the link between gluten and autism. I always knew that gluten was gross, but sheesh!
Then this morning I had my first "performance view" at work. It went much better than ever anticipated.. maybe I'll beat my bro at becoming the first Dr. Lehocky...

Bonsai!

Bonsai!
Originally uploaded by Petie_in_Cbus.
Not to pat myself on the back that much, but I think that I have a pretty sweet collection of found/free art with good stories attached.
There's the painting of the baby and breast that scares people that I found behind the Friendship house next to a sterotypical suitcase full of gags (squirting flower, glasses w/ nose & moustache, etc) and pictures of the previous tenants (who had obviously broken up), which I hung up in our house too.
There's the Chairman Mao authentic piece of propoganda from Shanghai which although paid for, was pulled out of a bottom cabinet in the store under all the regular souviners and when we unrolled them later, Chinese nationals were astonishly questioning where we got them. There's a better story of a painting that I didn't get, which almost ended in Craig being beaten up, so they go hand-in-hand now.
I had a pretty great oil painting of a pin-up girl with bunny ears on that was done on a cardboard box- which unfortunately I tossed in a mass cleaning a few weeks ago.
Then last night, my neighbor had this painting sitting out with all this stuff in the hallway, and I was drooling over it earlier in the evening and then later she let me have it! It's pretty awesome. She also gave me an 8x10 picture of sorts made out of hole-punched pieces. I think I'm gonna cut it up and turn it into a necklace. Whoo-hoo!

Bikin' to Werk

So once again I was reminded that I can't bring my bike into my office building, nor can I really store it outside as per the building management company and one of the guys at work told me that I could throw it in his truck if the company hassles me. I told him that I had a few things to say to them about Urban sprawl, (here too), Car culture, human health, and brief them on this lecture which explores economic inequalities in America and bike culture. Which is probably the most applicable to me biking in Dublin. Let alone tell them about things that I notice first hand- the product pouring into the river from an old refinery that we work on, correlations between Economic areas and environmental cleanliness and Mountain top removal -if they need to question me and my bike.

When you google my name, only 2 pages come up!

So it seems that I'm not going to be traveling as much as I had been told for work and a few opportunities have been presented to me so I'm thinking about trying to show some works again.
I dug through photos when I was at home this weekend, and remembered how much I like my Slide Photos and then looking through my boxes here, realizing how many of them are still framed. But I feel like they have no meaning. I've been thinking about doing a new series, but haven't been that motivated with a deeper meaning. The best I could come up with was the transformation of my body since moving to Cbus with dealing with stuff differently with the introduction of a cube job/fast food/car culture/mass consumption. But I'm also not thrilled about using myself again.
Ideally, I'd like to do more of the textile/quilted stuff like the quilt that I made for Nathan during the POG/Anti-war days. But not protest stuff, more along the lines of what people to in their everyday lives. I'm more into stuff that can actually be used (like quilts) from materials that I've found or already have. Kinda like the linocuts that I'm been doing, but not as shotty. I think this would be an even tougher gallery sell than the photos, but we'll see what actually materializes and how focused I can become...

BLC/JMS's baby party

BLC/JMS's baby party

Bridget and Jeremy are havin' a baby. Pretty crazy to have people gettin' married and others producing spawns. On my agenda? Well, about 4 of the last 6 guys I've hung out with have been seriously involved in other relationships. Whatev.
It was nice to see BLC/JMS and a bunch of others, like Josh, Mike V, Ryan and finally meet Peppy. (although I missed the S Iz Ilent) Bridget kicked us out at 1 so I headed to Oakland to see Chauch. Caleb was there too and it was nice to catch up with those boys.
Sunday morning I headed to the Quiet Storm to meet up with Andy which is always a great treat- esp. when he has an amazing piece of art to give to me! The tofu was pretty awesome too and I ran into dentista extrondaire Dr. Callen playing pinball.
Rolled back into Cbus tried to track down the Food Not Bombs kids but couldn't catch them so I headed to the North Market to see Jillian! MoJoe Lounge then Bodega. Phone calls until 1 am. Up at 5:30 for work. Ahhh to be back in Arawak City

Not that I personally ate any of the butter/egg/cream filled concoctions, but the ridiculousness of it all was a site to see. I just sat there and finished a little going away gift for Bobbie.
Oh yeah, and when I was in Freedom the night before with Bobbie and Katie, I found this flyer across the street from KT's house. There's even a special place on it where you can roll over! hehe

Like Summer @ the Brillobox

The super cute boys of Like Summer played at the The Brillobox on Penn Ave. The space was interesting, darker than I had expected, but Yuengling bottles were $2 and there was glitter on the ceiling. Okay, maybe that makes it amazing.

Prison Puppet Show- The Hardest Question Ever

Possibly the best night thus far in Columbus. Puppets, Skylab, open discussion where people raised their hands to speak and didn't talk over each other. Amazing.
Taken out of the context of her hometown, it was pretty amazing to watch Etta's influence on people. I have a whole new level of respect and admiration for her.
