Saturday night in Cbus

Sadly, I wasn't able to go to Canada this year but dad caught a 3.9 l b fish.
Instead, dinner at Marchella's, then beer/mashed potatoes at the Elevator then CBR's to see Bullet Jones. It's our friend Tom's son Lee's band, and dang Lee looks just like Tom.

Renovations!

Due an outdated teal color and awful, awful stench, it was time to rip out the carpet.
Growing up on nights/Saturdays/summers, I worked with my dad on all of his rental units. I'm pretty greatful for everything I learned slaving away, but the thing that I am most greatful for was the stance on renters not having pets. I had seen a lot through the years (most memorably then night we went to evict someone and there was blood all over the apt. We got some sweet metal cassettes out of that one though), but man, this was bad. Contrary to growing up, I adorned approirate PPE that I had in my car for work and made short work of it.

I can honestly say that I've never been happier recently with a completed project. Sure, the floors aren't as nice underneath as JG would like the house to look, but damn, it's pretty nice in there. And the indoor air quality is now at an appropiate level.
Still some more scrubbing and washing to do, but I may even be able to sleep in there now. yay!

Wholly Craft has moved!

Wholly Craft has moved! Next door to the original spot! The space is about 3times the size of the original, and it looks great! There's even a write up in the Alive about it!

Then I came home and geeked out a bit. This is a nice, quick short cut, but this is probably the most useful blog entry I've seen on Lifehacker. And then I dreamt about going back to school (a good portion very similar to that) to watch sweet videos like this one on Die Swell. With the main goal being Angeline one day. (she too obviously believes that ironing is for the birds)
Oh yeah and remember, and if someone would gift me a Flickr ProAccount I could post more pics! :-p

Friday in Cbus!

Tonight was the Art Fits show at JunctionView Studios. I traded doing some commission work for finishing my piece to go there, and that's okay. They could have had a bit more context with the show (it focused on artists who've given up art to pursue other things- like real work, families, life, etc- and I think they could have played that up a bit. If you came in the back entrance it looked like a gallery of studyhall pen drawings and awful oil paintings (the one crazy lady told me not to photograph those). But coming in the main entrance, the newspaper article was there, and beer, and good works. It had a very Art All night feel, but about 1/10 of the space. Amy was showing 3 pieces and here's glimpse:

Overall, a really nice event. We left when the music was starting, but it was nice to meet Amy's partner Randy, who was back from his man hike in Colorado.

Oh, and if someone would gift me a Flickr ProAccount I could post more pics from the show. :-p

He was sick yesterday

But better today. And has resumed his postion in the bathroom sink.

On Boston

BLC/JMS have been in Boston a month, but this is by far the best line I've seen in a blog recently.
"I really hope the anarchs in this town are into supporting union organizing and not just in having droopy mohawks and being in circuses. "
hehe
Now off to cross my fingers that the rain hold off for Critical Mass!

TakeWrning circa 2003!

Margo representing the Takewrning digs circa, 2002-2003. Fabric from a 60's suit jacket and there used to be a woman appliqued on it (note- this is why they are no longer in production). Beads and sequins still going strong though!
It was pretty random/sweet to see Margo, in Cbus from Pgh with her twin, just for LadyFest! She had moved to Providence before I had left (or shortly there after), and I thought that she was still there. So cute!

Maybe we'll be on the front page soon???

Akron

Akron work once again this week. Going better than last, especially since I got a new jobber.Start the next at the end of August. So one month off means SF!

Ohhh Nathan

So Nathan went to Texas. FOR 5 WEEKS. Then he's travelling places. I WONT HAVE ANYONE TO BANTER WITH ALL THROUGH MY DAYS NOW. I'm very sad. No random phone calls, no obsurd texts and hassling photos. No tough love or straight up answers.
I wish I could have unemployeed travel adventures with you again!
Like the God Bless America Tour 2004!

Carnival of Craft

So here are some pics of the booth that I shared with Emily and Dina
There was also the Craft Corner Death match. AmyD and I- Battlestar Craftlatica, went head-to head coming in 2nd out of 6 teams. I have to say that the competition was pretty fierce.

In the Craft Corner death match, your team is allowed to bring one tool or material and then had 10 minutes to make a project with the materials provided. The first round project was a wallet, so AmyD and I made a thigh wallet. Luckily the ladies next to us forgot to seal their edges up, as their wallet was REALLY CUTE! In the final round we had to go up against the Bubba Tink ladies, and we were worried. Their pop-up greeting card in the first round was pretty amazing. The final round project was to decorate switch plate covers and we were really at a creative loss. They turned theirs into a thong. Brillant!

Not on this coast

Although the Minifest weekend was good, it would have been nice to be in SF.

Ladyfest Minifest 2007!

Ladyfest- Minifest was this weekend! Word has it that they had a great turn-out to Friday events, but sadly I was in Akron too late (and exhausted upon getting home). Saturday was the CARNIVAL OF CRAFT and various workshops in Stonewall. Dana went head to head against Haley Vomit from the Ohio Roller girls (and two kids) in the cupcake eating contest.

Dang, I am so not ready. :-(

Teenage Wasteland

The last week at work has been incredible for my sanity. It was good to get out of Cbus and dig in the dirt for a few days. (Even if those days were about 5-9 when accounting for drive time, but I really wanted to be home in the evenings) It was refreshing to be out in the field and interacting WITH OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. IN THE SUN. And was good to talk about opinions of different firms/industries.
But also, when I was at home I watched Harlan County USA. First accidently with the subtitles on, but it really makes for a greater appreciation of the film that way, and made me remember why I did my senior research under Dr. Murphy when at the time he was a leader in mine safety (and I like how in his bio he stresses lab saftey- I got to tell my UEL explosion story at an interview earlier this week) and then later that year miners were trapped in PA... vs. what I'm doing now vs. what I want to do vs. what I should do...
SO anyhow, being out there made me even more uncertain on what to do with my future, but I think over the next year or two, I have a good body of work that I want to put together (quilts and jewelry).
But the main byproduct of the long days- I've this song stuck in my head all week. and in my feet- there may have been a bit of dancing next to the trench.

OK, this exhausted, rambling PT is going to bed. Sorry Deadsea, I would have loved to have seen you this evening.

NDS wants to be PT

Following suit of PT, Nathan painted his bike blue and got a blog. He also found buttons of the Pomewdo while cleaning out his desk. And I found the source images while crafting yesterday. I couldn't believe it!

his entry!
My spotting:

Chemical Wasteland

And the Steelers were still represented in Akron:

Wine Tasting at the North Market

(Bike Love @ the North Market)
Hopefully, if you were in Columbus Sunday, you headed down to the North Market on Sunday for the wine tasting. Although I tasted no wine, I did enjoy wandering through the vendors of the likes of Amy D, Sweet Stella, Umbrella Girl and Wholly Craft. Oh, and AmyD is now my partner for the Craft Corner Death Match on Saturday at Ladyfest so watch out!
Check the Ladyfest page for all the minifest details- but here's the Carnival of Craft blurb:
Saturday's line-up includes a Carnival of Craft at the parking lot of Stonewall Columbus ( 1160 N. High St. ) from 11am-6pm featuring over 25 local indie crafters peddling hip and handmade goods. The Carnival also features a live performance stage with puppetry from Magical 2 Foot Theater, Anna and the Annadroids, music from Elisa Nichols, general circus shenanagins, a cupcake eating contest sponsored by Surly Girl Saloon, and a LIVE Craft Corner Deathmatch event hosted by the one and only Reverend Roy Rogers. Free short films from Lux Killmore Productions (think: high camp at its finest) and comedian Jessica Delfino will also be screened inside Stonewall.

Gravy Train in Cleveland!

Random updates over the last week. James and Laura had their baby- River. Bobbie and Brad got engaged. JG took me to Cleveland to meet some of his fam and see his friend's band The Very Knees, but of course we were late and missed some family and the band, but got to drinks some beers at the Kenny Chesney concert tailgate and shopeed a bit.
The highlight was that The Very Knees opened for GRAVY TRAIN! Yeah! It was awesome, I hadn't seen them in a few years, crowd was tame but they were still good.

Self Portraits from last Thursday

Sometimes pictures are taken of your outsides and sometimes of your insides.

Yeah, I was pretty out of it and don't remember taking any with my camera phone, but saw that I send them to a slew of you later in the day. Oh drugs! This Thursday is much better so far.
